Light International School’s Languages Department sits at the very center of almost all academic activity as teaching/learning takes place via a language. This department offers three languages: English, French and Swahili. Aware that effective communication is of critical importance to the learning process and doing of examinations even in many other subjects, members of the Languages Department (all of whom are well qualified and experienced) take the work of imparting different language skills in the learners very seriously. We thus pay attention to the development of reading, writing, listening, speaking and study skills in all the learners.
In view of the challenge posed by the presence of students from diverse language backgrounds and whose level of linguistic competence in the languages we offer may vary significantly, we give attention to individual students and their specific language needs. This often involves taking some of them through special sessions that help in improving their skills within the shortest time possible. In addition, we advise the office on the best options available for the purposes of examination registration in those cases where students’ linguistic competence may necessitate entering them for fairly less challenging language examinations.
For English, we offer 0500 First Language English (Core and Extended); for French 0520 French As A Foreign Language (Core and Extended); and for Swahili GCE 3162 Swahili.
Advanced Subsidiary/Advanced Level
At these levels, we offer 9093 English Language.
Our department continues to offer great opportunities to students aspiring to be (multi-)linguists.
