Congratulations to Tony Okedi, a graduate of 2011, who has successfully completed Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering at UCL with First Class Honours and was named on the Faculty of Engineering Sciences Dean’s List.
Big thanks to him for making us proud. Below you can read his testimonial.
“I was one of five students in Light Academy’s inaugural A Level class back in 2011! After graduating from Light Academy, I briefly joined the University of Cape Town in South Africa for one semester before being awarded a competitive full merit scholarship to study at University College London (UCL). In June 2016, I completed my Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering at UCL with First Class Honours and was named on the Faculty of Engineering Sciences Dean’s List.
I have now decided to take a break from academia to gain some work experience before going back to complete a PhD. I will shortly be starting a strategy consulting role at a professional services firm in London.
Being part of Light Academy’s inaugural A level class is an experience that in retrospect, I appreciate greatly. The availability of academic resources and high staff to student ratio meant that I got all the support I required as a student. I could learn at my own pace and, where feasible, I was allowed to accelerate my studies. However, with all the support available, Light Academy fosters a culture of independence and self-discipline on the student because in the end, success comes down to the individual.
Another great aspect of Light Academy was the communal feel and the culture of helping those who are less fortunate. This is a value that I have carried with me since I left the school, leading me to volunteer my time with Engineers Without Borders whilst I was a university student. Lastly, what I have mentioned above is definitely not an exhaustive list of the great things about the school, but just some of the things I remember fondly of my time there. Wishing the current students all the success in the world!”
