GCIEPO is an international science project competition for both primary and secondary schools that is the brainchild of Light Group of Schools, and is dedicated to creating and sustaining awareness on environmental issues.
The fifth edition of GCIEPO which took place in May 2015 attracted 117 teams from 22 countries (Afghanistan, Angola, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Ghana, Indonesia, Iraq, Kenya, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Pakistan, Puerto Rico, Rwanda, Senegal, Slovakia, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Georgia).
The 6th edition will be held between 30th April and 2nd May 2016 at Light International School, Nairobi.
Students from between the ages of 11 to 19 are eligible to participate. Participation takes place at two age levels: Junior (11-14 years) and Senior Level (15-19years). The senior age level participants will choose one of five categories for their project(s) depending on where it fits best. These categories comprise ENGINEERING, ENVIRONMENT, ENERGY, ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN and AGRICULTURE. Students will identify an environmental problem and compete by coming up with a viable solution or intervention measures.
